Oil and gas cooperation is the starting point for energy cooperation between China and Central Asia. New energy power generation, as an important carrier for achieving low-carbon development globally, has increasingly deepened cooperation between the two sides and demonstrated great potential. At the 6th International High Voltage Direct Current Conference held in Urumqi from August 8th to 10th, the development of new energy and international cooperation became a topic of concern for experts and scholars in the field of energy and power in China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and other countries.
Nurhat Zakhiev, Senior Researcher at the Department of Science and Innovation at Astana University of Information Technology in Kazakhstan, stated that China and Kazakhstan have achieved a series of results in bilateral cooperation, which has had a positive impact on Kazakhstan's economic development. In the field of energy, China is helping Kazakhstan gradually transition to green energy. At present, in Kazakhstan, new energy projects such as the Zhanatas wind farm, Turgusun hydropower station, and Almaty photovoltaic power station, which are constructed with the participation of Chinese enterprises, are effectively helping the local area to transition to low-carbon.
The relevant person in charge of Goldwind Technology Co., Ltd., a leading wind power equipment manufacturing enterprise in China, previously introduced that as of the end of the first quarter of this year, Goldwind Technology had accumulated wind power installed capacity of over 319000 kilowatts in Central Asian countries such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, making Central Asia one of Goldwind Technology's core markets. It is worth mentioning that the company also plans to invest in building factories in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to achieve local manufacturing of wind turbines.
"Tajikistan's energy distribution is similar to that of China, and China's technological experience in the field of new energy plays an important role in driving countries along the the Belt and Road." The chief researcher of the Institute of Physics and Technology of the Tajik Academy of Sciences, Madaliyev Umarhon, said that Tajikistan currently has great room for improvement in the construction of the standardized regulatory system in the field of renewable energy and in the training of new energy technology personnel, and looked forward to more practical cooperation with China.
In 2023, Northeast Electric Power University will cooperate with Samarkand International University of Science and Technology in Uzbekistan to establish China Electric Power Institute, which will become an active exploration of China Uzbekistan cooperation in power technology. Liu Chuang, Dean of the China Electric Power Institute at Samarkand International University of Science and Technology, stated that Uzbekistan is currently exploring wind and photovoltaic resources, but the level of power grid construction needs to be improved. China's experience in the past 10 years can provide Uzbekistan with a model.
Central Asia is the first place to jointly build the the Belt and Road Initiative. Su Chang, a researcher at the Russian Institute of Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, believes that the concept of green cooperation between China and Central Asia is in line with the current global trend of green development, with complementary advantages.
