On the 25th, the European Union announced the extension of sanctions against Türkiye's drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, and continued to list Türkiye related individuals and entities as targets of sanctions.

According to the announcement issued by the EU Council on the same day, the EU decided to extend the sanctions against Türkiye's drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean for one year, until November 30, 2025.

The announcement said that the EU would continue to impose sanctions on individuals and entities responsible for or participating in Türkiye's drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, freeze the property of the sanctions target within the jurisdiction of the EU, prohibit relevant individuals from entering the EU, and prohibit citizens and entities of EU member states from providing funds to them.

In June 2019, Türkiye sent a drilling vessel to start oil and gas drilling in the disputed waters of the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. Cyprus and Greece, as EU member states, strongly opposed this, alleging that Türkiye's exclusive economic zone in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea occupied the territorial waters of the two countries, and its drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea were "illegal".

In November 2019, the EU began to impose sanctions on Türkiye's drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean, and then extended the sanctions year after year. Türkiye's government pointed out that its eastern Mediterranean drilling activities involved areas located within Türkiye's continental shelf, and Türkiye would firmly exercise its power in the waters with sovereignty, and also said that it was willing to engage in dialogue with relevant countries to ensure fair sharing of resources in the eastern Mediterranean.(This article is from the official website of Jian Dao www.seetao.com.
