Recently, during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Egypt, Egypt and France signed a cooperation agreement to invest in and develop an integrated production facility for green hydrogen and green ammonia in Egypt. The project is located in Ras Shukheir, Egypt, with a total planned investment of 7 billion euros. The agreement was jointly signed by the Egyptian Red Sea Ports Authority, the Egyptian New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), and the "Green Fuel Alliance".
The Green Fuel Alliance is composed of EDF Renewables of France and Zero Waste, an Egyptian-Emirati joint venture company. The signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Esmat, and French Minister of Economy and Finance Eric Lombard.
Project Information
The project plans to produce 1 million tons of green ammonia annually and will be implemented in three phases. The first phase is scheduled to start production in 2029, and the products will be used as clean marine fuel and exported to the global market. The project does not require the government to provide funds, infrastructure, or power transmission support. It is entirely invested and operated by private enterprises. The project has an operation cycle of up to 50 years and is led and implemented by enterprises with long-term financial and technical capabilities.
The first-phase investment is 2 billion euros, directly invested by EDF Renewables and Zero Waste, with a planned annual production of 300,000 tons of green ammonia. The project will use 368 square kilometers of land for wind power generation and photovoltaic power generation; 1.2 million square meters of land will be used as the construction site for the factory. Meanwhile, a seawater desalination device and a 7-kilometer power transmission corridor will be built. The project company will fund the construction of a 400-meter-long loading pier with a draft of 17 meters, along with supporting port auxiliary facilities, and will be authorized for use by the Red Sea Ports Authority.(This article is from the official website of Seetao.com, www.seetao.com.
