On the vast Gobi Desert, giant wind turbines towering over 200 meters in height stand tall. Each of these fans can produce approximately 5000 kWh of electricity per hour of operation, enough to meet the monthly electricity needs of 20 households.

Looking around, neatly arranged photovoltaic panels shine brightly in the sunlight, extending to the sky; The towering solar thermal tower in the Gobi Desert looks like the rising sun from afar, outlining a magnificent energy landscape. In recent years, significant progress has been made in cooperation between China and Arab countries in the field of renewable energy. At present, China has built the world's largest and most complete new energy industry system, supplying over 80% of photovoltaic modules and 70% of wind power equipment to the world. Under the promotion of the the Belt and Road Initiative, China's technical experience and equipment have been widely used in the Arab region, helping to better develop and utilize clean and renewable energy.

The Eldafra Photovoltaic Power Station, located deep in the desert of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is constructed by a Chinese company and is currently the largest single photovoltaic power station built in the world. The project will be put into commercial operation in June 2023, with an annual power generation capacity that can meet the electricity needs of 200000 households and reduce carbon emissions by 2.4 million tons annually.

Chinese companies are also actively involved in the construction of wind power in the United Arab Emirates. The UAE wind power demonstration project, contracted by China Power Construction Group, has been completed and put into operation since 2023, with an annual power generation capacity of over 23000 households and an annual reduction of 120000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

In the vast desert south of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, large areas of photovoltaic panels are being laid. The Alshubach photovoltaic power station, constructed by Chinese enterprises, is expected to achieve a total emission reduction of 545 million trees within 35 years, becoming another example of China's plan to promote global energy green transformation.

In the North African region, projects such as the Kongombo Photovoltaic Power Station in Egypt and the Noo Photovoltaic Thermal Power Station in Morocco have also become witnesses to the deep cooperation between China and Arab countries in the field of renewable energy.

The concepts of clean energy, sustainable development, and green transformation have been deeply integrated into the development strategies of Middle Eastern countries. The Middle East think tank Geopolitics Report Organization pointed out that by participating in the energy infrastructure construction of Gulf Cooperation Council countries, China has become a key partner in the energy transformation of the region.

According to data from the International Renewable Energy Agency, although the installed capacity of renewable energy in the Middle East accounts for less than 1% of the world's total, it is one of the fastest-growing regions. Ruizide Energy Company predicts that by five years, 30% of the total electricity generation in Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates will come from renewable energy sources.

Since 2025, China and Gulf countries have further deepened their cooperation in the field of renewable energy. In addition to the highly complementary nature of the market and technology, an open and cooperative attitude is also an important foundation for both parties to work together.

Chinese partners have always maintained an open attitude, openly engaged in technical exchanges, and jointly promoted project implementation, "said Mohammed Abunaan, Chairman of Saudi International Power and Water Company, a leading global renewable energy and seawater desalination company." China has achieved outstanding results in energy transformation, demonstrating a pragmatic style to the world, and has always actively participated in global cooperation to achieve common development with other countries

Abunyan believes that China's progress in areas such as photovoltaics, wind power, and electrification provides a feasible path for the global energy system, which not only promotes breakthroughs in new energy technologies, but also realizes the inclusive development of new energy on a global scale.

Today, more and more enterprises in China and Arab countries are carrying out in-depth cooperation, and a green picture of jointly building the the Belt and Road is slowly unfolding in the vast land.
