Recently, the international bidding results for the 500MW solar independent power project (IPP) in Oman were announced, and a consortium consisting of Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), Korea Central Electric Power Company (KOMIPO), and Oman's Al Khadra partner company successfully won the bid. This result marks a new stage of advancement for the large-scale solar project and injects new impetus into Oman's clean energy development.

The Ibri III IPP project is worth 155 million riyals and is the fourth large-scale solar project in Oman, with significant strategic importance. It will not only enhance Oman's domestic clean energy supply capacity, help it achieve its goals of diversified energy structure and sustainable development, but also create a large number of job opportunities for the local area and drive the development of related industries.
According to the project plan, Nama PWP, the Oman Electricity and Water Procurement Company, will sign a power purchase agreement with the winning consortium to ensure the stable acquisition and sale of electricity generated by the project. The project is expected to officially enter commercial operation in the first quarter of 2027, providing reliable green electricity to Oman's energy market.
Looking back at the early stages of the project, in June 2024, the Ibri III photovoltaic project announced its pre qualification results, attracting numerous internationally renowned developers to compete. In the end, 9 developers from South Korea, France, and China successfully passed the pre qualification review, demonstrating the project's broad appeal and influence internationally. The consortium that won the bid this time stood out in the fierce competition with its comprehensive advantages in technology, funding, and project experience. With the determination of the winning bid, the construction and operation of the project will become the focus of attention for all parties. The winning consortium must strictly follow the plan to promote project construction and ensure that the project is put into operation on time and with high quality. At the same time, the Omani government and relevant enterprises should strengthen cooperation to provide strong support for the smooth implementation of projects and jointly promote the vigorous development of Oman's clean energy industry.Editor/Cheng Liting
