French shipping giant CMA CGM has officially signed a cooperation agreement with Morocco's leading port operator Marsa Maroc through its specialized terminal operation subsidiary CMA Terminals. The two parties will jointly develop and operate the container terminal located in the western port of Nador on the Mediterranean coast of Morocco. This cooperation is currently awaiting final approval from relevant regulatory authorities. After approval, Marsa Maroc will hold 51% of the equity and voting rights in the joint venture, and will be in a controlling position, while CMA Terminals will hold 49% of the shares.

According to the announced planning scheme, the terminal will be constructed and operated in stages, and is expected to be gradually put into use starting from 2027. The dock infrastructure includes a coastline with a total length of 900 meters and a front water depth of 18 meters, which can meet the berthing needs of large container ships. The yard covers an area of 37.5 hectares, with a total land area of about 60 hectares. It is planned to be equipped with 8 modern shore bridges, with an annual designed throughput capacity of 1.8 million TEUs. After completion, it will greatly enhance the container handling capacity of Morocco and the Mediterranean region.

This cooperation fully integrates Dafei Shipping's route network and cargo resources as a global shipping leader, as well as Marsa Maroc's profound operational experience in the Moroccan domestic market. With its prominent strategic location adjacent to the global shipping hub of the Strait of Gibraltar, the project aims to develop the Port of Nador West into an important container transit hub in the Mediterranean region. This will not only enhance the port layout of CMA CGM in the western Mediterranean region, but also significantly strengthen Morocco's node function in the global shipping network.

This cooperation is an important component of the overall development plan for the western port of Nador. Keywords: Overseas Mainland Port News, Mainland Port International Logistics Network

It is worth noting that in September 2025, Marsa Maroc has ordered 18 container cranes from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry, a well-known port machinery manufacturer in China. It is expected that these equipment will be delivered by the end of 2026, providing equipment support for the smooth operation of the port area. Dafei Shipping has substantially participated in the first phase of the development of the container terminal at Nador West Port by signing a 25 year sub concession agreement with Marsa Maroc, marking the substantial progress of this strategic project.
