[Malaysia restarts border railway] According to Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Locke, Malaysia will restart the 18.7-kilometer abandoned route between Pasimas and Lantupan River on the border with Thailand. The renovation project, located in the far north of Malaysia, costs 2.64 million ringgit (62.9 million US dollars) and is expected to start next year. According to local news media The Edge, Loke stated that the work will be implemented by the Railway Assets Company (RAC), and the procurement is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year. The route ceased passenger services in 1982 and freight services in 2006. After reopening, it will resume cross-border services to Sungai Golok, Thailand. The project plan is to be completed within three years after the upgrade project starts, including upgrading the track and foundation earthworks, installing fences, renovating Pasir Mas and Rantau Panjang stations, and upgrading the signal and communication systems.
