Recently, the 2025 Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Global Investment Promotion Conference was grandly held in Guangzhou. At the meeting, the Shanwei Honghai Bay Six Sea Wind Power Project, which was heavily invested by Shenneng Ocean Energy (Shanwei) Co., Ltd. with a total investment of approximately 7.897 billion yuan, was successfully signed as a representative project of Shanwei City. This marks the substantial promotion stage of this large-scale clean energy project and injects strong impetus into the green and low-carbon development of the Greater Bay Area.

The project is located in the southern sea area of Shanwei City, Guangdong Province, with a superior geographical location. The site is well planned, with an outer edge covering an area of approximately 62 square kilometers. The water depth in the surrounding area ranges from 40.7 meters to 46.6 meters, and the center point is about 33 kilometers away from the coast. In terms of installed capacity, the project is planned to have a capacity of up to 500 megawatts. According to the early plan, it is planned to install 36 wind turbines with a single capacity of 14 megawatts. The designed annual equivalent full load power generation hours are about 3203 hours, and it is expected to deliver about 1.6 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity to the grid annually, which is sufficient to meet the electricity needs of a large number of households and has significant emission reduction benefits.

It is worth noting that with the rapid iteration of wind turbine technology, the project plan has also been optimized and adjusted. According to recent reports, in order to pursue higher power generation efficiency and economic benefits, the project plans to use 34 more advanced 15 MW large capacity wind turbines. This adjustment will increase the total installed capacity of the project to 510 megawatts, which not only reflects the application of cutting-edge technology in the project, but also further enhances the overall power generation capacity of the project.

To ensure the efficient and stable transmission of enormous electrical energy, the project will be accompanied by the construction of a 500 kV offshore boosting station and a technologically advanced 500 kV offshore reactive power compensation station. Electricity is transmitted to the shore through approximately 93.74 kilometers of submarine cables, and finally collected at the onshore centralized control center in Xiaomo Town, Shenzhen Shantou Special Cooperation Zone. It is then connected to the 500 kV Shenzhen Shantou substation, truly achieving the core goal of "green power transmission from offshore wind power to Shenzhen" and providing strong support for the energy demand of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, especially in Shenzhen.

In addition to power generation and transmission, this project also demonstrates its foresight in energy comprehensive utilization and industrial integration. The project innovatively configured an energy storage system with a scale of 50 MW/100 MWh, which is like equipping a "giant power bank" for the wind farm, effectively smoothing out the fluctuation of wind power output and enhancing the grid's ability to absorb new energy.

What is more demonstrative is that the project plans to construct a fully life cycle digitalized offshore wind farm, and synchronously build a marine ranch project. The integration model of wind power and pastures means that large-scale and intelligent fishery farming activities will be carried out in the waters below and around the wind farm. It realizes the three-dimensional and efficient utilization of marine space, perfectly interprets the green concept of water power generation and underwater fish farming, and is a model for promoting the deep integration and coordinated development of the new energy industry and modern marine economy. It provides a new path for the development of future offshore wind power projects that can be referenced. Keywords: wind power new energy, wind power new energy news

In summary, the Shanwei Honghai Bay Six Sea Wind Power Project is not only an important achievement of the Global Investment Promotion Conference of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, but also an important practice for China to promote energy structure transformation and explore diversified development of the blue economy. Its construction and operation will have a profound and positive impact on ensuring regional energy security, promoting technological innovation, driving local economy, and protecting the ecological environment.Editor/Cheng Liting
