Recently, the People's Committee of Gia Lai Province in Vietnam officially released an international investment announcement, publicly selecting strategic investors for the first phase of the H ò n Trau offshore wind farm project. This flagship energy project has a total investment of 48.37 trillion Vietnamese dong (approximately 1.84 billion US dollars), a planned installed capacity of 750 megawatts, and an expected annual power generation of 2.8 billion kilowatt hours. It is planned to be completed and connected to the grid for power generation before the fourth quarter of 2029.

The total land area of the project is about 49.62 hectares, including 32.01 hectares of sea area and 17.61 hectares of land area, spanning seven coastal towns including Guiren Dongfang and Fumei Pingshun. As a national key energy project in Vietnam, the project has been officially included in the 2021-2030 National Marine Spatial Plan and the 2050 Vision Goal of the Overall Plan for Sustainable Utilization of Coastal Resources.

The Finance Department of Jialai Province emphasized that the project will create a large number of job opportunities for the local area, promote industrial system upgrading, and help the province achieve its "double-digit" annual economic growth target by increasing clean energy supply, optimizing power grid structure, and reducing transmission losses. This is also an important strategic measure for the province to fully leverage its advantages in coastal and plateau wind energy resources after the merger of the former Pingding Province and Jialai Province.

The German PNE AG Group has been continuously focusing on the development of wind power in the H ò n Trau area since 2019, with a planned total installed capacity of 2000 megawatts and a total investment of approximately 4.6 billion US dollars, to be implemented in three phases. In October 2024, PNE established a Vietnamese representative office in Guiren City; In January 2025, its subsidiary successfully obtained the license for the H ò n Trau Phase I commercial service project with an investment of 260 million Vietnamese dong (approximately 9.88 million US dollars), laying a solid foundation for the subsequent construction of wind power entities.

These projects all adopt a 50 year franchise model and require completion within 36 months: Yongshun Wind Farm: installed capacity of 143 MW, annual power generation of 240 million kWh, total investment of 4.68 trillion Vietnamese dong (178 million US dollars) Wancheng 1 Wind Farm: installed capacity of 160 MW, total investment of 6.9 trillion Vietnamese dong (262 million US dollars) Wancheng 2 Wind Farm: installed capacity of 180 MW, annual power generation of 630 million kWh, total investment of 7.77 trillion Vietnamese dong (295 million US dollars)

Thanks to its unique geographical conditions and policy support, Gia Lai Province is rapidly emerging as a dual hotspot for Vietnam's offshore and onshore wind power development, providing broad participation space and cooperation opportunities for international investors, including Chinese enterprises.
