The Qatari authorities have awarded ABB a contract to design, supply, test and commission a high-power charging infrastructure, which is known as one of the largest electric bus fleets in the world. According to the contract, ABB will provide high-power charging infrastructure for the fleet, which is expected to operate 1,000 electric buses across the country, which can transport 50,000 passengers per day.
According to a statement from ABB, the move is in line with Qatar's goal that by 2022, 25% of its public bus network will be powered by electricity, and it will increase to 100% by 2030. As part of this plan, the country will create one of the world's largest electronic bus networks in a single installation. In cooperation with Mannet Trading Company, Qatar Public Works Authority Ashgar and fleet operator Mowazalat-ABB will design and deploy heavy-duty vehicle charging equipment at multiple locations in Qatar, including 4 bus stations and 8 public Bus station and 12 subway stations. The statement explained that the scope of the project also includes a three-year service level agreement.
