The Chilean government has formulated a major plan for the development of transport infrastructure. These plans will spend a total of US $13.26 billion on all types of infrastructure for the period 2022-2026.
These plans were drafted by the Ministry of Public Works of Chile. A total of 52 projects and 43 concession packages were planned. One of the biggest projects is to improve important Pan American routes. This will cost approximately $4.55 billion, including a total of 12 concessions.
In recent years, the Chilean government has actively promoted the development of green transportation and advocated low-carbon travel. In April 2022, the Ministry of Energy of Chile and the non-profit research institution Maersk Mackenzie Muller Zero Carbon Shipping Center announced a formal agreement to build a green shipping corridor network, so that goods entering and leaving Chilean ports can achieve zero emission transport. The project will promote the further development of zero carbon marine fuel and technology, and is supported by the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile. It is reported that the first step of the project is to complete the site selection of the green corridor this year. The government will map and evaluate the relevant areas according to the emission intensity, fuel accessibility, distance to the port, ship leg, route and cargo type of different locations.Editor/Xing Wentao
