In 2018, Tanzania joined the Belt and Road Initiative, and in the past five years, the two sides have achieved fruitful results. How does China-Tanzania pragmatic cooperation change the lives of local people?

Mbelwa Kairuki, Tanzanian Ambassador to China: Since 2018, our trade volume has increased by 40%. We have seen more exports from Tanzania to China, which has a positive impact on Tanzania's people's livelihood. In the past five years, in terms of infrastructure construction, Chinese companies have participated in many projects. We have upgraded our Dar es Salaam Port and Tanga Port. These projects are all under construction by Chinese companies. A lot of things that have happened in the past five years are inseparable from the Belt and Road Initiative, which also symbolizes the deepening of cooperation between our two countries. We have benefited a lot in terms of technology, and China's technology is very practical. We look forward to achieving more cooperation results in the next five years, not only to make progress in jointly building the Belt and Road, but also to implement global development initiatives.

Ambassador Kairuki said that the reason why the Belt and Road Initiative is so popular on the African continent is that it has inherited the consistent commitment and spirit of China's Africa policy, and the joint construction of the Belt and Road will make the friendship between China and Africa last forever.

Because this railway was built when China was poor, he did not have much resources at that time, but decided to help Tanzania and Zambia build this railway. In the process, some Chinese people paid a price and even lost their lives. This project demonstrates the spirit of solidarity and fraternal cooperation between China and Africa. A new generation will see the spirit shown then, the spirit that China and Africa can cooperate even in the most difficult situations.
