According to the latest data released by the German Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), Germany's photovoltaic industry made significant progress in February. Specifically, developers added 1,071.3 MW of PV capacity during the month, a figure that not only demonstrates the strong momentum of the PV industry, but also reflects Germany's strong commitment to renewable energy.

The increase stands out when compared to the same period last year. In February 2023, the new PV installed capacity was 746 MW, and the data in January this year was as high as 1.42 GW. It can be seen that Germany's photovoltaic industry has shown a steady upward trend in the past year, which is inseparable from the government's strong support for renewable energy and the continued growth of market demand.

Cumulatively, through the first two months of 2024, developers have installed up to 2.43 GW of new PV capacity. This is a significant increase from the same period last year. In the same period last year, the figure was about 1.62 GW. By the end of February, the cumulative installed photovoltaic capacity of the country has reached 84.88GW, this huge figure not only highlights Germany's leading position in the field of renewable energy, but also indicates the great potential of the photovoltaic industry in the future.

It is worth noting that the shift between market segments is also quietly taking place. Under Germany's feed-in tariff scheme, the growth momentum of rooftop PV systems has slowed. In February, only 447.1 MW of new capacity was added to rooftop PV systems, about half the January level. This may be due to a combination of factors such as policy adjustments, rising costs or changes in market demand.

However, at the same time, the installed capacity of ground projects has shown strong growth. In February, the installed capacity of rooftop projects reached 29.5 MW, while the installed capacity of ground projects reached 383.1 MW, accounting for about 40% of the total photovoltaic capacity deployed in the month. This shift may reflect the market's favor for terrestrial PV projects, as well as the enthusiasm of developers to invest in and develop terrestrial PV projects.

In addition, the ground projects running under the German auction program have also made significant progress. In February this year, the total capacity of these projects reached 169 MW, injecting new vitality into the German photovoltaic industry. The successful operation of these projects will not only help increase the installed PV capacity in Germany, but also make an important contribution to the country's energy transition and climate change goals.
