Minmetals Resources Company, a subsidiary of China Minmetals Corporation, held a grand takeover ceremony of Komakao Copper Mine in Botswana, which marked that Minmetals Corporation of China successfully completed the investment and acquisition of this large copper mine project with more than 6 million tons of copper resources, taking an important and strategic step.

This project is not only the largest overseas copper mine acquisition project completed by China Minmetals Corporation since 2018, but also the largest single investment made by Chinese enterprises in Botswana so far.

The Comako copper mine is located in the Kalahari copper mine belt in southern Africa, with a mining rights area of over 4000 square kilometers. The project was completed and put into operation in June 2021, with a designed annual production of 60000 tons of copper and 1.6 million ounces of silver. The mine has a lifespan of over 20 years and has good cost competitiveness and resource exploration potential. After expansion, the copper production capacity can be increased to 135000 to 155000 tons/year. Keywords: the Belt and Road news, the Belt and Road project, overseas project.

In 2023, China Minmetals actively carried out the acquisition of the Komakao copper mine. In November of that year, they signed an equity acquisition agreement for 13.5 billion yuan and successfully completed the project delivery.
