The expansion project of Guoneng Ningxia Zhongwei Power Plant, the first peak shaving power supply project launched in the country for the Shagehuang New Energy Base, has now begun. This project has been included in the key energy development plan of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region for the 14th Five Year Plan, and as an important supporting peak shaving thermal power project of the Ningxiang DC transmission system, its successful construction will have a profound impact and positive promotion on the low-carbon energy transformation and safe and stable operation of the power grid in Ningxia and Hunan provinces.

It is understood that the project is located in the Zhongwei Industrial Park in Shapotou District, Zhongwei City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. It is planned to construct four 660 MW clean and efficient ultra supercritical air-cooled coal-fired power generation units, as well as simultaneous construction of desulfurization and denitrification devices and ancillary facilities. After the project is put into operation, it is expected that the annual power generation will be about 11.08 billion kilowatt hours, and the annual transmission capacity of new energy to Hunan will be about 10.48 billion kilowatt hours, saving about 3.144 million tons of standard coal annually.

Among them, China Electric Power Construction Corporation's subsidiary, Electric Power Construction Nuclear Power Company, is mainly responsible for the construction and installation of the main works of Unit 3 and Unit 4 in Section A, as well as the construction and installation of the central control building and some ancillary facilities. China Energy Construction Northwest Institute is responsible for designing 4 units, while China Energy Construction Jiangsu Electric Power Construction First Company is responsible for constructing Units 5 and 6.

At present, the Ningxiang DC project AC supporting project includes five projects: "DC transmission end 750 kV AC connection project", "Tiandushan 750 kV transmission and transformation project", "Gantang 750 kV transmission and transformation project", "Ningxia Zhongwei expansion power plant 750 kV transmission project", and "Miaoling 750 kV substation main transformer expansion project".

Among the new energy projects supporting the Nanjing Hunan DC Project, Zhongwei Tengger Desert PV project has made remarkable progress. Specifically, the first phase of the project has successfully achieved grid connection and production, with an installed capacity of 1 million kilowatts. This milestone event occurred in April 2023. Looking ahead to the future, the second phase of the project is expected to commence construction in October 2024, with a planned installed capacity of up to 2 million kilowatts, which will further promote the development of clean energy in the Ningxiang and Hunan provinces. Since the launch of external power transmission in Ningxia Province, as of January 18, 2024, Ningxia has successfully transmitted up to 700 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, of which 79.5 billion kilowatt hours are from new energy, accounting for 11.4% of the total external power transmission.
