Iraq's Baghdad International Airport is located about 16 kilometers west of downtown Baghdad. It is a government-operated dual-use military and civil airport and the largest of Iraq's seven international airports.
The airport was built between 1979 and 1982, and the construction cost more than US$900 million that year. In 1991, when the United Nations imposed sanctions on Iraq, the airport stopped commercial flight operations. Later, it was damaged in the war. After partial repairs provided by the United States Agency for International Development, it was reopened to passengers in August 2004. In 2023, more than 3.4 million passengers arrived in Iraq through the airport.
As of this year, the airport has been built for 42 years. The three terminals are only equipped with basic facilities. During the peak travel period, the airport's carrying capacity has been overwhelmed, so the restoration and reconstruction of the airport has also received attention from the Iraqi government.
Recently, the Iraqi government publicly issued an invitation for qualification applications for the Baghdad International Airport PPP project through the Ministry of Transport and the Airport Corporation. Editor/Zhao E
