[The total amount of agricultural germplasm resources preserved in China ranks first] Germplasm resources are strategic resources that ensure stable and secure supply of food and important agricultural products. Agricultural germplasm resources mainly include three types of germplasm resources: crops, livestock and poultry, and aquatic products. The latest announcement from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs states that since 2024, China has focused on urgently needed varieties for agricultural production, accelerated the precise identification of germplasm resources and the breeding of new varieties, increased support for advantageous seed industry enterprises, further strengthened the protection of intellectual property rights in the seed industry, and achieved a number of fundamental and landmark results in the seed industry revitalization action. In the first half of 2024, a historic breakthrough was made in the protection of germplasm resources. The comprehensive survey of agricultural germplasm resources was completed, and 139000 new crop germplasm resources and 1.19 million genetic materials for livestock, poultry, and aquatic products were collected.
