On August 28, 2024, the third return air shaft of the Liaoning Xi'anshan Iron Mine project, the largest single underground railway mine project in China, was excavated to 773.2 meters underground. This is the first vertical shaft completed by Xi'anshan Iron Mine, laying the foundation for the construction of the project's roadway.
The Xi'anshan project is located in Tiexi District, Anshan City, with 8 vertical shafts and 2 inclined shafts. The third return air shaft is the deepest underground vertical shaft in the entire project, with a net diameter of 8 meters and a depth of 773.2 meters. The cumulative excavation volume is 1.23 million cubic meters, making it a key and difficult control project.
The Xi'anshan project is a key project of the national "cornerstone plan", with a reserve of 1.3 billion tons of resources, including 30 million tons of mixed iron ore and over 10 million tons of iron concentrate. The cumulative excavation length is 92.8 kilometers, the excavation volume is 2.978 million cubic meters, and the support volume is 370000 cubic meters. It is currently the largest and most endowed single iron mine in China that has not yet been developed. The project adheres to the concept of "Two Mountains" and follows the direction of deep mining, intelligent mining, efficient beneficiation, and green development. It adopts an underground mining and transportation construction plan, which, compared with traditional open-pit mining, maximizes the preservation of the natural scenery of Xi'anshan, reduces dust and soil erosion, and ensures that the surrounding environment is not damaged.
