On September 23, 2024, at an important meeting in New York, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, had an in-depth exchange with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Tayet.
Wang Yi stressed that the successful conclusion of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) marks a new era for China-Africa relations: an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era. At the summit, President Xi Jinping put forward six major initiatives for China-Africa joint modernization and ten partnership actions for all-round cooperation between the two sides, which undoubtedly laid a solid foundation for the future development of China-Africa relations. China is ready to work closely with Ethiopia and other African partners to accelerate the implementation of the outcomes of the summit and jointly promote the prosperity and development of both sides.
He further pointed out that as all-weather strategic partners, the cooperation between China and Ethiopia has always led the trend of China-Africa cooperation. The two sides should closely rely on the strategic consensus of the leaders of the two countries and take advantage of the opportunity of the implementation of the summit outcomes to promote new breakthroughs in bilateral cooperation in various fields. The two sides should continue to firmly support each other, deepen practical cooperation, strengthen the synergy of development strategies, and jointly create more cooperation highlights. As major developing countries and important forces in the Global South, China and Egypt have demonstrated a firm stance of defying power and upholding justice, and in the future, the two countries should further strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs and jointly contribute more to world peace and development.
Taye spoke highly of the success of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), saying that the summit was an important milestone in the development of Africa-China relations, which not only enhanced mutual trust between the two sides, but also fully demonstrated China's firm support for African countries. He thanked China for its positive contribution to the success of the summit and expressed his strong desire to work with China to actively implement the outcomes of the summit and push Africa-China relations to a higher level. Taye stressed that Ethiopia attaches great importance to its relations with China, firmly supports the one-China principle, and looks forward to cooperation with China in more fields and achieving more fruitful results. In international and regional affairs, Ethiopia shares a similar position with China and is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation, jointly oppose unilateralism and hegemonism, and uphold international fairness and justice.Editor/Jiang Mingyue
