[China's Five Flexible Straight Back to Back Projects Approved for Construction] Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission officially approved five back-to-back flexible DC transmission projects, including Chongqing Guizhou, Hunan Guangdong, Hunan Guizhou, Fujian Jiangxi, Anhui Hubei, etc. The total investment of the project is 24.4 billion yuan, with State Grid Corporation of China investing 18.4 billion yuan and China Southern Power Grid Corporation investing 6 billion yuan. It is planned to be put into operation before the peak summer of 2027. The project will build 5 new flexible DC converter stations with a capacity of 3 million kilowatts each, and construct 1227 kilometers of 500 kV access system lines. Among them, the Chongqing Guizhou and Hunan Guangdong projects that cross the operating areas of State Grid and Southern Power Grid are led by State Grid Corporation of China, while the Hunan Guizhou project is led by Southern Power Grid Corporation of China. The relevant person in charge of State Grid Corporation of China stated that after the completion of the project, it can significantly enhance the emergency response capability and dispatch flexibility of the power grid through a 15 million kilowatt inter provincial bidirectional power transmission capacity in extreme situations such as natural disasters or power grid accidents, and ensure the electricity demand of the economy, society, and people's livelihood.
