[Zambia's photovoltaic power station is connected to the grid ahead of schedule]In June 2025, the 100 MW emergency solar energy project in Kabwe, Zambia was officially connected to the grid for power generation, and President Hicklema personally unveiled the plaque. As the largest single photovoltaic project in the country, its operation has brought brightness to the central region, which has long been plagued by power shortages.
The project is located in the central province of Kabwe, covering an area of 106 hectares. During the construction process, the Zhongzan team collaborated efficiently, overcame technical challenges, and completed the entire process from design to commissioning in just 10 months, shortening the project timeline by over 40% compared to similar projects. At the peak of construction, a record of 66000 spiral piles were completed in 52 days.
The project is expected to generate 180 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which can meet the electricity needs of about 150000 households and alleviate 30% of the electricity gap in the region, providing stable support for local industrial and agricultural development. At the same time, the project has created over 1350 local job opportunities and trained 320 skilled workers of various types through training, achieving a balance between "construction" and "empowerment".
The successful grid connection of this project is not only a key achievement of China Zambia clean energy cooperation, but also injects strong green momentum into Zambia's energy security and sustainable development. Editor/Yang Beihua
