[RWE invests £ 200 million to build the largest battery energy storage project in the UK] On December 1, 2025, German energy giant RWE announced that it has finally decided to invest approximately £ 200 million to launch its largest battery storage project in the UK - the Pembroke Battery Storage Project. The project has a scale of 350MW/700MWh and will become one of the largest battery energy storage facilities in the UK upon completion. The project is located in South Wales and is a key component of RWE's planned Pembroke Net Zero Center. Welsh Chief Minister Elune Morgan announced the launch of the project at the Welsh Investment Summit and emphasized the Welsh government's determination to attract significant infrastructure investment to drive the transition to clean energy. It is reported that the energy storage project obtained planning permission in January 2025 and successfully won the bid in the recent capacity market auction in the UK, ensuring its future revenue path. The project is scheduled to start construction in the first half of 2026. If the grid connection work can be completed as planned, it is expected to be officially put into operation in the second half of 2028. Editor/Yang Meiling
