In the heart of the Taklamakan Desert, a profound energy revolution is quietly unfolding. In the past, this vast 'Sea of Death' was the main source of gas for China's West East Gas Pipeline; Nowadays, it is rising as a "green energy new oilfield" with an annual power generation exceeding 2 billion kilowatt hours. In 2025, the annual photovoltaic power generation and daily maximum power generation of Tarim Oilfield will reach a historic high, marking the solid construction of a new pattern of coordinated development of oil, gas, and new energy in the deep desert.
Behind the impressive data is a solid engineering layout. From Yuli and Qiemo to Yecheng and Jiashi, the total installed capacity of five large-scale photovoltaic power stations has reached 2.6 million kilowatts, and the recently fully started Luntai 100000 kilowatt project will further inject new energy. What is even more commendable is the distributed photovoltaic project covering 100000 acres of yellow sand, with a total of 239 projects. They cleverly transform single wells and stations into nodes for green electricity production. Liang Yulei, the manager of the New Energy Division of Tarim Oilfield, exclaimed that the photovoltaic power generation has achieved "three years and three leaps", and the development from scratch and from small to large is amazing.

The deeper significance lies in the fact that this photovoltaic blue ocean is reshaping the ecology and energy flow of the desert. By laying photovoltaic panels on quicksand, not only is wind speed effectively reduced and local microclimate created, but biological sand control is also carried out under the panels, achieving a win-win situation of on board power generation and under board greening. 8% of this green electricity is used for the oil field's own carbon reduction and emission reduction, while 92% is transmitted through the Xinjiang Power Transmission Channel, crossing mountains and seas to light up thousands of households thousands of miles away.
Looking ahead to the future, with the expectation of the executive director of the New Energy Division, Lei Ting, that the installed capacity will exceed 4 million kilowatts next year, Tarim Oilfield is transforming from a single oil and gas supply base to a comprehensive energy hub that integrates clean energy production, ecological restoration, and cross regional empowerment, contributing solid desert power to the green transformation of China's energy structure.Editor/Cheng Liting
