On February 6, 2026, the LG27 project of the North South Highway in Armenia, undertaken by China Electric Power Construction, successfully passed the completion acceptance, which is of great significance for improving the local transportation situation, promoting the economic and social development of Armenia, and enhancing the efficiency of the Eurasian land transportation channel

Armenia is located at the border of the Eurasian continent, at a key node of the China Central Asia West Asia Economic Corridor. In order to facilitate logistics channels and further promote economic development, the government of the country has implemented large-scale road upgrades in recent years, focusing on strengthening transportation infrastructure.
The LG27 project of the North South Highway in Armenia, undertaken by China Electric Power Construction Corporation's Hydroelectric 16th Bureau, is 27 kilometers long and located northwest of the capital city of Yerevan. The construction includes upgrading and widening the existing highway, upgrading it from a two-way two lane road to a two-way four lane asphalt concrete pavement, and building 16 new bridges, including 7 interchange bridges, 7 agricultural bridges, 1 railway bridge, and 1 water bridge.
During the construction period, the project team actively fulfilled their social responsibilities and established a good brand image of a state-owned enterprise. Jointly carry out the "Planting North South Highway Forests Together" tree planting activity with the local government, practicing the concept of green development; Visit and comfort local kindergartens, donate various teaching facilities; Repairing asphalt roads for surrounding communities to effectively ensure the safety of local villagers' travel; Actively participate in local football commemorative matches and deeply integrate into local cultural life.
The LG27 project is a key component of the M1 highway, an important transportation artery in Armenia. The M1 highway connects the capital city of Yerevan with the northern city of Jumli. After the completion and opening of the entire line, the travel time between the two places will be reduced from the original 10 hours to 5 hours. The Water and Electricity 16th Bureau undertook the construction of two sections of the highway, TL18 and LG27. The TL18 section was completed and officially opened to traffic in October 2022.

After the upgrade and renovation of the LG27 project, the traffic capacity and service level of this section will be significantly improved, and the expected travel time can be reduced by 30%. The project not only provides a solid transportation guarantee for high-quality economic and social development in northern Armenia, but also plays an important role in deepening the all-weather connectivity between Armenia and Georgia, Türkiye and other neighboring countries.Editor/Bian Wenjun
