On March 22, 2026, the gates of the Daxihaizi Reservoir downstream of the Tarim River were opened, and the accumulated winter water rushed down, marking the official start of the 27th ecological water transfer downstream. The first phase plans to deliver water for 15 days, with a water volume of 20 million cubic meters.
As the mother river of Xinjiang, the lower reaches of the Tarim River have experienced ecological deterioration due to the interruption of water flow. Since 2000, the local area has transported water through reservoirs for 26 consecutive times, with a cumulative water volume exceeding 2.6 billion cubic meters. This water transfer will effectively nourish the downstream "green corridor", supplement groundwater, restore vegetation vitality such as Populus euphratica forest, and maintain biodiversity.

This is not only a water conservancy project, but also a vivid practice of desertification prevention and control. Through scientific allocation of water resources, the Tarim River is gradually restoring ecological barriers and achieving harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.Editor/Cheng Liting
