Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister of Transport and Aviation of Ghana, announced on behalf of the Government of Ghana that it has announced plans to start the third phase of the construction of Tamali Airport in order to give the facility an international status. Minister Asiamah announced the news during a working visit to the Tamali Metropolitan Area in the northern part of the country to understand the development level of the second phase of the Tamali Airport.

The third phase of the construction project

The construction of the third phase will include the expansion of the main multi-purpose terminal (approximately 5,508 square meters) under construction as part of the second phase. The construction cost of the third phase has not yet been determined. However, the Minister explained that technical experts from the Civil Aviation Authority of Ghana and Ghana Airports Co., Ltd. are working hand in hand with the contractor Brazilian construction company QGMI and the project consultant Ecobuild Consult to determine the cost of the proposed project.

He pointed out that the government will immediately seek funds to raise funds for the project, explaining that it is economically feasible and profitable to carry out the two phases at the same time. "The project consultant suggested that we perform two phases at the same time as at Kumasi Airport. This will be feasible, will be profitable, and will reduce costs for us."

So far, the second phase of the construction of Tamale Airport is currently 57% completed. Among the facilities inspected, the project design, the main wharf, multi-purpose buildings, bulk utilities, and access roads and parking lots were completed by 80%, 57%, 61%, 41% and 38%, respectively. This large-scale public facility includes underground fire-fighting reservoirs, portable water tanks and wastewater treatment systems. The Minister of Transport and Aviation of Ghana said: "Based on the briefing I made and my personal visit to the project site to inspect the facilities, I can confidently say that the project will be completed on schedule."
