On July 1, China’s first lake-bottom double-deck tunnel, Suzhou Yangcheng West Hunan Tunnel, constructed by the First Company of China Railway 20th Bureau, was officially completed and opened to traffic, marking the full line through of the Suzhou Central North Line, a key project in Jiangsu Province.

The Suzhou Yangcheng West Lake Tunnel is 4.47 kilometers long and 52 meters wide. The deepest part of the water reaches 24.6 meters. The entrance and exit ramp is 1.83 kilometers long. It is a precedent for the construction of an ultra-deep, ultra-wide, underwater asymmetric double-layer tunnel in China. It provides valuable experience for China to organize the environmental protection construction of large-scale transportation facilities in drinking water sources.
The project is an important fast track in the east-west direction of Suzhou City. It is the first ultra-deep, ultra-wide, double-deck tunnel in China. It is known as the "Three Thousand Gusu First Tunnel". It is a key municipal project in Jiangsu Province and a single unit in Suzhou The largest investment in infrastructure projects.

The construction team of China Railway 20th Bureau divided the 4.47 km tunnel into four sections for subsection management and control, scientifically planned, meticulously organized, and standardized construction. Project safety, quality, and progress are always controllable during the peak construction period. More than 1,400 workers, more than 80 crawler cranes, and more than 100 vehicles are performing construction in the Yangcheng Lake area in an orderly manner

Over the years, China Railway 20th Bureau has built a large number of safe and high-quality green engineering models in Suzhou. Next, China Railway 20th Bureau will continue to work to create architectural works of art that are full of care for mankind and nature, and continue to benefit the people of Suzhou.
