The capacity expansion and reconstruction project of the Chengdu-Kunming Railway starts from Chengdu, Sichuan Province in the north and Kunming City, Yunnan Province in the south. At present, only the Xiaoxiangling Tunnel and the Xinyuexi Tunnel remain unconnected.

Jixin Tunnel is located in Ganluo County and Yuexi County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with a total length of about 17.6 kilometers. It is the second longest tunnel in the capacity expansion and reconstruction project of the Chengdu-Kunming Railway. The tunnel is located in the eastern part of the Hengduan Mountains and the transition zone from the Sichuan Basin to the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau.

There are 17 sets of strata in the mountain body that Jixin Tunnel passes through, and there are 3 fault zones in the area. Among them, the section passing through the dolomite is nearly 11 kilometers long.
