On September 29, 2023, at the site of the Lianjiang Nuclear Power Project in Guangdong, hundreds of builders were working nervously and orderly under the scorching sun and high temperatures. This Mid Autumn Festival, hundreds of builders of the Lianjiang Nuclear Power Project in Guangdong have presented a special gift to their motherland through their struggle.

After 53 hours of continuous struggle, the first tank of concrete for the nuclear island reactor of Guangdong Lianjiang Nuclear Power Unit 1 of State Power Investment Corporation was successfully poured at 16:58 pm that day. This marks the official entry of the first phase of the project into a new stage of engineering construction, and also signifies a new step in the development of nuclear power in China.

The Lianjiang Nuclear Power Project is the first coastal nuclear power project developed and constructed by State Power Investment Corporation in Guangdong Province. Plan to build 6 CAP series third-generation nuclear power units, with a total installed capacity of 8.62 million kilowatts. Among them, the first phase of the project will construct two advanced million kilowatt nuclear power units, with a single unit rated capacity of 1.25 million kilowatts. Both units adopt advanced CAP1000 third-generation passive pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology, with a designed operating life of 60 years. It is expected that these units will be completed and put into operation by 2028, greatly enhancing China's energy supply capacity.

Relying on the high-quality construction of the Lianjiang Nuclear Power Project, the National Power Investment Corporation will promote the strategic acceleration of large projects and large bases. They plan to build integrated comprehensive energy bases in Guangdong Province and Zhanjiang City to assist in the upgrading of local industrial structures and the green and low-carbon transformation of energy systems. In addition, this project will also be the first nuclear power project in China to adopt seawater secondary circulation cooling technology, providing a new demonstration for improving the environmental friendliness of China's nuclear power projects.
