[Bosch will launch a hydrogen combustion engine for trucks in 2024]German company Bosch has announced plans to launch the first hydrogen combustion engine for trucks in 2024 to complement its existing fuel cell and battery electric products. Hydrogen engines are less efficient than fuel cells, and cars using hydrogen engines require more hydrogen to travel the same distance. But hydrogen-powered internal combustion engines are cheaper and easier to maintain than fuel cells, which are more prone to fouling with dirt and dust, and require very high-purity hydrogen to operate, proponents say. Bosch says on its website that hydrogen combustion engines represent another option for future powertrains. Especially under challenging environmental conditions, hydrogen internal combustion engines are characterized by robust performance. In other words, hydrogen combustion engines may be more suitable for off-road heavy vehicles, and Bosch's website shows that excavators and agricultural tractors in the construction industry may be the solution for this technology. Analyst Jamie Fox believes that off-road vehicles such as tractors and mine vehicles may be better suited to using hydrogen combustion engines than trucks. Editor/Xu Shengpeng
