On March 13, 2024, Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Minister of Transport of Singapore, personally pressed the start button, and the cutter head of "China Railway 1108", a large-diameter atmospheric mud shield machine carefully built by China Railway Equipment for Singapore, slowly started. This important moment marks the official opening of a new chapter in the construction of the first large-diameter shield tunnel project of the Singapore MRT Cross-Island Line Phase 1 project.

Singapore's Ministry of Transport, Land Transport Authority, Construction Authority, Changi Airport and Dacheng - China Construction Joint Venture leaders and guests gathered together with China Railway Equipment Singapore branch to witness the "China Railway 1108" shield machine launch this exciting moment.

The Singapore MRT Cross-Island Line, a 50km long transport artery, connects key areas such as Jurong Lake District, Punggol Digital District and Changi. Upon completion, the project is expected to have a daily passenger capacity of more than 600,000. Among them, the CR105 project tunnel of Singapore cross-Island Line, which is excavated by the "China Railway No. 1108" shield machine, has a total length of 3,157 meters. The project faced many technical challenges, including severe conditions such as a maximum slope of 30‰ and a maximum burial depth of 60 meters. The shield has to pass through a variety of complex formations, such as Marine clay, mixed granite and old impinged sand, as well as important buildings such as Singapore's international hub Changi Airport. These complex regional geological conditions and ground major risk sources put forward extremely high requirements for construction, not only have strict standards for equipment performance, but also need to accurately grasp the settlement control.
