More than 400 students from the Kurna region of Bangladesh and employees from the Mongla Port Authority were invited to visit a suction dredger used in a dredging project contracted by the Chinese side at Mongla Port in Bangladesh. This visit not only gave them the opportunity to have face-to-face communication with Chinese engineers, but also allowed them to personally experience the first perspective of cockpit construction, gain a deeper understanding of the working principle of the suction dredger and the operation process of dredging projects.

The Mongla Port dredging project undertaken by China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd. is undoubtedly the largest dredging project in the port to date, with a total dredging length of 23.4 kilometers. During the visit, visitors gained a deep understanding of the specific work content of marine dredging engineering, including various aspects such as channel measurement, design, construction, and later maintenance. They also had face-to-face communication with Chinese engineers on site and listened to their explanations on the technical details and engineering challenges of the dredging project.

The project started in 2020 and aims to expand and deepen the waterway through dredging operations, so that large commercial ships with a draft of 10 meters can freely enter and exit the port with the help of tides. The successful implementation of this project will greatly enhance the shipping capacity of Mongla Port, attract more large commercial ships to choose this port as a transit station or destination, and further drive the trade and industrial development of the surrounding areas.

"The efforts of Chinese companies are commendable. They have successfully completed four dredging operations and are currently undergoing internal port dredging. We believe that Chinese companies can achieve their established goals with high quality, and we are full of confidence in this," said Rahman, Joint Secretary of Mongla Port Authority.

The project department adheres to the idea that teaching people how to fish is better than teaching people how to fish. Through cooperation with local universities and institutions, we strive to more scientifically and sustainably solve the siltation and blockage of Mongla Port.

Guo Zhipei, the head of the hydraulic department of China Civil Engineering Group Co., Ltd. Bangladesh Company, said that serious siltation was found during the implementation of channel dredging. The port spends a large amount of financial and material resources on channel maintenance and dredging every year, and faces the risk of re siltation after dredging. In order to systematically solve this problem, the company has been conducting scientific research in collaboration with Kurna University of Engineering and Technology and Mongla Port since 2019, hoping to reduce dredging costs and ensure smooth navigation through river regulation.

Professor Shajahan from Kurna University of Engineering and Technology highly praised the contributions of Chinese companies in the region. He particularly pointed out that Chinese companies not only have supported academic forums in the Kurna region multiple times, but also actively participate in scientific research cooperation projects at the Kurna University of Engineering and Technology, selflessly sharing their valuable experience and technology in construction.

Professor Sha Jiahan further stated that they are very much looking forward to conducting more in-depth and extensive exchanges and cooperation with Chinese companies and research institutions. He believes that through such cooperation, not only can academic research and engineering technology in the Kurna region be further promoted, but also new vitality can be injected into the local economic and social development. Not only does it demonstrate the social responsibility of Chinese enterprises, but it also promotes exchanges and cooperation between China and Bangladesh in fields such as technology, education, and culture.
