On April 9, 2024, Unit 4 of CGN Guangxi Fangchengang Nuclear Power Plant was successfully connected to the grid for the first time, marking that the unit has the power generation capability and has taken another key step towards the goal of commercial operation.

During the grid connection process, the parameters of Unit 4 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant were normal and stable, and the unit was in good condition. A series of subsequent tests will be carried out as planned to further verify the various performances of the unit with commercial operating conditions. It is expected to be put into high-quality production in the first half of 2024.

Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, as the first nuclear power plant in the western region and minority areas, the two units of the first phase project were successfully put into commercial operation in 2016, marking a solid step forward in the nuclear power field in this region. Units 3 and 4 in the second phase of the project serve as a demonstration project for Hualong One, demonstrating China's innovative strength in the field of nuclear power technology. It is particularly worth mentioning that Unit 3 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, as the first Hualong 1 nuclear power unit in western China, was officially put into production on March 25, 2023. Its first cycle operation is safe and reliable, and its 2023 annual capability factor is as high as 98.2 %, this achievement sets the best record for domestic third-generation nuclear power reactors, fully demonstrating China’s leading strength and technological level in the field of nuclear power.

The three operating units of the Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant have delivered a total of more than 120 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to the power grid. Compared with coal-fired power stations of the same size, this achievement means that it has successfully reduced the consumption of more than 36.24 million tons of standard coal and avoided approximately 98.88 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. This environmental contribution is equivalent to planting 270,000 hectares of forest on a vast land, bringing fresh greenery to the earth. The outstanding performance of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant not only actively responds to the country’s dual-carbon strategy, but also plays a key role in promoting the construction of a new energy system.Editor/Zhang Liyuan
