On May 1, 2024, the construction site of the Jiaozhou section of the Jiaoji Expressway was in full swing, with towering cranes and roaring machinery. Workers were not afraid of the scorching sun and went all out to grasp the progress of the project. As a key link in the collection and distribution system of Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport, this project is not only an important all-weather expressway in the new airport’s 4631 comprehensive transportation support system, but also a key transportation infrastructure construction project during Qingdao’s 14th Five-Year Plan period.

The construction of the Jiaoji Expressway will fill the gap in the east-west high-grade road in the northern area of Qingdao's central urban area and greatly improve traffic accessibility. The project starts from Binhai Highway in the east and passes through three districts and cities of Jimo, Chengyang and Jiaozhou to the south interchange of Jiaodong International Airport. The total length is about 50.6 kilometers. It is constructed according to the standard of two-way six-lane, first-class highway (also taking into account the function of urban roads). , with a design speed of up to 100 kilometers per hour.

What is particularly noteworthy is that the Jiaozhou section of the Jiaoji Expressway is 8.2 kilometers long and adopts a design that combines the main line of elevated highways with auxiliary roads. As the first implementation section, the National Highway 204 Dagu River Bridge, with a total length of 2.2 kilometers, has been successfully completed in December 2023. At present, the headquarters is working closely with the Municipal Transportation Bureau to promptly solve various problems encountered during construction through front-line command and front-line dispatching to ensure high-quality advancement of the project.

In order to further optimize the construction progress, the headquarters has taken a series of effective measures. Up to now, 65% of the total project volume of the Jiaoji Expressway (Jiaozhou Section) has been completed, of which the pile foundation completion rate is as high as 98%, and the cap and pier completion rates have also reached 94% and 95% respectively. The prefabricated box girders and cast-in-place box girders are 84% and 91% completed respectively, and the bridge deck paving completion rate is 68%.
