Swedish manufacturer Midsummer has completed the siting of its new plant with a future capacity of 200MW, an important step that marks the company's commitment to producing high-quality CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenium) thin-film solar cells on the European market. This decision not only reflects Midsummer's precise grasp of market needs, but also demonstrates its strong commitment to renewable energy technology.

Swedish manufacturer Midsummer is about to build a new solar cell factory in the city of Fren in southeastern Sweden, financed in part by the EU Innovation Fund with a total of up to €32.3 million. Once the European Union formally approves the site selection and start-up plan for the project, Midsummer expects to take over the site in September this year and begin construction of the plant. According to the plan, the plant is expected to start producing CIGS thin film solar cells in 2026 and employ around 200 people when fully operational in 2028 to supply high-quality renewable energy products to the European market.

Midsummer specializes in the production of lightweight and environmentally friendly solar panels, which are particularly suitable for low-load commercial and industrial roofs that cannot support the weight of traditional silicon panels. Eric Jaremalm, the company's chief executive officer, said in announcing the city of Freon as the site for the new plant that the decision was based on Freon meeting all of the company's key requirements. These requirements include having a suitable site, a reliable power supply and a sound infrastructure to support this high-tech production.
