Vietnam's Pati Tau Tau province recently announced plans to invest 50.82 trillion VND, or about 2 billion US dollars, to build a 50-hectare port project. The project, named Gaimei Lower Port, will be jointly developed by a consortium consisting of State Capital Investment Company, Geleximco Group and International Transport and Trading Joint Stock Company, with the aim of upgrading existing port facilities.
It is reported that the port project is located in Bati Touton province and is a core component of the logistics center under Gaime. In September 2020, the province of Bati Touton approved the project proposal for the logistics center in Guaimei, which is expected to expand its total area to 2,240 hectares to cope with the docking needs of the world's largest ships with 250,000 tons. The logistics center and water surface area will exceed 1,400 hectares, providing ample space for future logistics and trade activities.
It is expected that the logistics center project will become a regional and even world-class cargo transfer center, transporting goods to domestic provinces and countries around the world by sea, inland waterways and highways.
The first phase of the project, starting in 2024 and ending in 2030, will invest in the construction of two berths that can accommodate ships of 250,000 class. The Ministry of Transport has assessed that the first phase of the project proposed by the consortium is in line with the Vietnam Seaport Master Plan in terms of ship size and function. However, given the large amount of investment, investors need to prove their financial ability to get approval for the investment.
Baditouton province is located in Europe, the Middle East, North Asia, the Americas on the international maritime routes, has the conditions to become a logistics center and international transit port. The Game-Schwe River, located in the province of Badyouton, is deep and wide, with little sediment and smooth access for large ships. At the same time, it is the southeast sea gateway of the Pan-Asian route of the Southeast Economic Corridor of the Mekong Subregion.
According to the master plan for the development of Vietnam's seaport system, the port cluster of Game-Shiwe not only carries the gateway function of the southeastern region of Vietnam and even the whole country, but also has been given the status of a special national seaport. Among them, the port of Gamea has been identified as one of the priority seaports for development due to its strategic position and economic potential.
At present, the province has seven berths with a designed annual handling capacity of 7.66 million TEU. However, in the past three years, the average annual container throughput of these ports has exceeded 8 million TEUs, demonstrating their strong handling capacity and potential for continued growth. This achievement not only proves the strength of the Gaime Seaport cluster, but also indicates the future development prospects of Vietnam's seaport system. Editor/Wang Tian
