The Tarim Oilfield Desert Highway "Zero Carbon" Demonstration Project is designed for the special environment of the Taklamakan Desert. This road crossing the Sea of Death has a total length of 522 kilometers and is China's first zero carbon desert road. In order to control the desert and protect the environment, the project has built 86 photovoltaic power stations on both sides of the road, completely replacing the original diesel engine power generation pumping irrigation system.
