On September 25, 2024, a total investment of up to 6 billion yuan was officially approved for CGNPC's Jiangxi Wind Hydrogen Alcohol Integration Project, marking the upcoming implementation of the project in Ruichang City, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. The project is built by the Jiangxi Branch of CGN New Energy Investment Co., Ltd., aiming to build a green and efficient energy industry chain by integrating the three core links of wind power generation, hydrogen production and storage by water electrolysis, and methanol production from biomass gasification.

The project is ambitious, with 600MW of installed capacity deployed in the wind power generation part, and a complete transmission system including 35KV/220KV booster stations, aggregation stations and transmission lines. In the field of hydrogen production and storage by water electrolysis, the project plans to introduce alkaline water electrolysis hydrogen production equipment with a hydrogen production capacity of 10,000 standard cubic meters per hour, and set up a 220kV/35kV step-down station to ensure power supply. What is particularly striking is that the project will also set foot in the field of biomass gasification to methanol, and plans to build a green methanol production line with an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons, which will rely on biomass gasification technology to convert biomass resources into syngas, and then combine with green hydrogen to produce environmentally friendly methanol products through advanced synthesis technology.

One of the highlights of this project is its innovative green production path of hydrogen-biomass gasification-methanol, which makes full use of the source-grid-load-storage integration model to realize the organic combination of green hydrogen production from wind power and biomass gasification to syngas, and then efficiently produce green methanol. This path not only helps to promote the optimization and upgrading of the energy structure, but also contributes an important force to the realization of the goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

The project is progressing rapidly and is scheduled to officially start construction in December 2024 and is expected to be fully completed in December 2027. On September 11, 2024, the Ruichang Municipal Government reached a project cooperation agreement with CGN Wind Power Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Electric Wind Power Group Co., Ltd., laying a solid foundation for the smooth progress of the project.Editor/Jiang Mingyue
