Recently, Hebei Design Institute, a subsidiary of China Electric Power Construction Group, successfully won the survey and design task for the Huadian Mulei large-scale carbon dioxide energy storage power station project. The project is located in Mulei County, Changji, Xinjiang, aiming to build an innovative energy storage power station with a scale of 100 megawatts and an energy storage capacity of up to 1000 megawatt hours. It can provide continuous power for 8 hours and extend the power generation time to 10 hours. It adopts cutting-edge non supplementary combustion compressed carbon dioxide energy storage technology and achieves energy storage and release through gas-liquid conversion, making it the largest project of its kind in the world.

This project is not only an important supporting demonstration for wind and solar energy bases in desert and Gobi regions, but also a milestone in promoting the development of new energy storage technology. Its working principle is simple and efficient: during off peak periods, surplus electricity is used to compress carbon dioxide into liquid and store thermal energy; During peak hours, the stored heat energy is used to promote the gasification of liquid carbon dioxide and drive the generator for power supply.

After the completion of the project, it will significantly improve the peak shaving capacity of Xinjiang power grid, reduce the waste of wind power and photovoltaic power, promote the efficient grid connection and utilization of new energy, and enhance the stability and reliability of power grid operation.
