On September 27, 2024, focusing on the two major ethnic autonomous regions in Qinghai Province, China - Jianzha County in Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Hualong Hui Autonomous County in Haidong City, the Jianzha Yellow River Grand Bridge project in the Sichuan Qinghai Railway project, which attracted attention, entered its important construction stage or milestone. The project spans the Yellow River and connects two regions with rich ethnic cultural backgrounds, marking significant progress in the construction of the Sichuan Qinghai Railway in crossing natural and geographical boundaries.
On the bend of the Yellow River, a light blue steel arch bridge under construction is reflected above the water surface. Two red overhead cranes are slowly advancing on the already erected bridge arches on both sides. This steel truss arch bridge, which resembles a long bow, has begun to take shape. Its main bridge is designed as a three span continuous steel truss tied arch bridge, with a super large span of 141 meters+366 meters+141 meters. The main bridge is expected to be completed in July 2025, with a total length of 648 meters and a crown height of 130 meters above the water surface, equivalent to the height of a 40 story building.
As one of the key bridge projects along the Sichuan Qinghai Railway, the Jianzha Yellow River Extra Large Bridge is currently the world's largest double track railway continuous steel truss arch bridge, and also the railway steel bridge with the largest span across the Yellow River in China.
