On April 2, local time in Uzbekistan, the Bashi and Zankerdi wind power projects in Uzbekistan, which China Southern Power Grid participated in the investment, construction and operation, were officially put into operation. The commissioning time was about two months ahead of the original plan, becoming the largest wind power project built in Central Asia. At present, the project has been fully connected to the Uzbek national power grid, and it is expected to provide about 3 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to the local area each year, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 1.6 million tons.
Uzbekistan is one of the countries with faster economic and population growth in Central Asia. Its energy consumption is mainly natural gas, and it is planned to increase the proportion of renewable energy power generation to 40% by 2030. The wind power project is located in the southern part of the Kyzyl Kum Desert in Bukhara State, with a total installed capacity of 1.027 million kilowatts. It is jointly invested, constructed and operated by Saudi International Power and Water Company and China Southern Power Grid International (Hong Kong) Company, holding 65% and 35% of the shares respectively.
In order to adapt to the changing local climate conditions, the project uses a 6.5-megawatt large-capacity wind turbine independently developed by China. This type of wind turbine has undergone many innovations and optimizations in design and function, which can maximize the capture of wind energy, greatly optimize power generation efficiency, and have high efficiency and durability.
Against the background of the relationship between China and Uzbekistan being upgraded to a new era of all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership, the cooperation between the two sides in the field of energy has opened a new chapter. This project is an important measure for China Southern Power Grid Company to implement the important consensus reached by the heads of state of China and Uzbekistan, serve the construction of a community of shared future between China and Uzbekistan, and promote the deepening and practical cooperation of green energy along the Belt and Road.
The relevant person in charge of China Southern Power Grid International (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd. said that in the future, they will work with partners to give full play to their respective advantages, carry out high-quality project operation and management, and strive to build the project into a high-standard, people-friendly, sustainable green energy cooperation benchmark project, and jointly promote the green and low-carbon transformation of energy in Uzbekistan and even the entire Central Asian region.
