The Lusemfa Solar Photovoltaic Project in Zambia is located in the Central Province. As a benchmark project for the green energy cooperation between China and Zambia, it has a total installed capacity of 27 megawatts. The planned construction content includes a photovoltaic plant area, a substation, and transmission lines. Among them, the 27-megawatt photovoltaic power generation area is equipped with an array of high-efficiency solar panels, which significantly improves the light energy conversion efficiency; the 33-kilovolt/66-kilovolt step-up substation serves as a key hub for power transmission, ensuring the efficient outward transmission of electricity; two 66-kilovolt transmission lines, each about 1 kilometer long, have become the "green arteries" connecting to the local power grid.

The project has remarkable environmental benefits. After being connected to the grid and put into operation, it can output about 48 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 32,000 tons, meeting the annual electricity consumption needs of 15,000 households, and at the same time replacing about 16,000 tons of standard coal.

The project is of great strategic significance. It can not only effectively alleviate the problem of insufficient hydropower supply during the dry season in Zambia and ensure a stable power supply, but also help the country increase the proportion of renewable energy in its energy structure and promote the transformation of the energy structure. In addition, during the construction period of the project, it has created more than 300 local job positions and trained new energy technical talents through skills training, achieving the transfer of technologies.

The project adopts a modular design, reserving space for subsequent expansion, and it can be quickly expanded to 50 megawatts in the future. The Director of Renewable Energy of the Zambian Ministry of Energy highly praised it as a model for the green energy cooperation between China and Zambia. Currently, the project has been included in the "List of Key Projects for China-Africa Green Energy Cooperation" and is expected to be fully put into operation in the third quarter of 2024, injecting strong impetus into the development of green energy in Zambia.
