Singapore's Royal Golden Eagle Group (RGE) and France's Total Energy reached an agreement to jointly develop utility scale solar photovoltaic power plants and battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Riau Province, Indonesia through a joint venture company, Singapore Renewable Energy. The project will adopt a phased construction model, and after completion, it will not only supply clean electricity to the Riau Province Green Industrial Park and local residents, but also plan to export electricity to Singapore and promote regional energy cooperation.
This cooperation project is highly aligned with Indonesia's dual goals of economic growth and emissions reduction, while also responding to the ASEAN Cross border Clean Energy Cooperation Plan. Imelda Tanoto, Managing Director of RGE Group, stated that the project will effectively promote regional connectivity, accelerate energy transformation, and create long-term economic value through investment in the development of Indonesia's solar value chain. Helle Kristoffersen, President of Total Energy Asia, emphasized that the project demonstrates the company's determination to support regional energy transformation, promote the construction of regional renewable energy infrastructure, and help achieve the vision of the ASEAN power grid.
The project is expected to create a large number of technical jobs in the fields of renewable energy, energy storage, and grid integration, enhancing Indonesia's strength in the solar and energy storage supply chain. It is reported that this project is another important layout of Total Energy in the field of new energy, following its acquisition of three renewable energy project portfolios in Europe and America in April 2025.
