PowerChina's 10th Hydropower Bureau officially signed a contract for the production, operation, maintenance and management services of the Steng Meiden Cascade Hydropower Station in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, marking another important breakthrough for Chinese enterprises in the field of hydropower operation and maintenance in Cambodia. At the signing ceremony, the general person in charge of the owner's unit, the relevant person in charge of the Tenth Hydropower Bureau and the representative of the Northwest Institute of PowerChina attended to witness this new achievement of China-Cambodia energy cooperation.
Project Overview: An important hydropower project on the Cambodian-Thai border
Located in the northwest of Koh Kong Province in Cambodia, about 50 kilometers away from the provincial capital and adjacent to Khao Yai Province in Thailand, the Sterten Meden Cascade Hydropower Station is a large-scale water conservancy hub focusing on power generation. The power station is developed in three cascades, with a total installed capacity of 150 MW and an average annual power generation capacity of about 488 million kWh, which can effectively alleviate the pressure on power supply in Cambodia and surrounding areas.
The first-class hydropower station has an installed capacity of 57 megawatts, a normal water storage level of 206 meters, and a storage capacity of up to 719 million cubic meters, which is equivalent to the storage capacity of 30 West Lakes in Hangzhou.
The secondary hydropower station has an installed capacity of 53 megawatts, a water storage level of 126 meters, and a storage capacity of 7.6 million cubic meters.
The tertiary hydropower station has an installed capacity of 40 megawatts, a water storage level of 66 meters, and a storage capacity of 6.1 million cubic meters.
China's hydropower technology export helps Cambodia's energy development
As an important hydropower project in Cambodia, the operation and maintenance management of the Sterten Meden power station is crucial to ensuring the stability of regional power supply. The successful signing of the O&M contract by the 10th Hydropower Bureau not only reflects the comprehensive strength of Chinese enterprises in the field of overseas hydropower, but also further consolidates the long-term cooperation between China and Cambodia in the field of energy infrastructure.
In recent years, PowerChina has participated in the construction of a number of major energy projects in Cambodia, including the San River II Hydropower Station and the Ganzai Hydropower Station, which have provided important support for Cambodia to optimize its energy structure and reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. The signing of the O&M contract for the Stern Mee Deng hydropower plant will further improve the operational efficiency of Cambodia's hydropower facilities and help the country achieve its clean energy transition goals.
Deepen China-Cambodia energy cooperation and jointly promote sustainable development
With the rapid development of Cambodia's economy and the continuous growth of electricity demand, the development, operation and maintenance of renewable energy such as hydropower and photovoltaic will become the focus of the future. With its rich experience in international projects, Sinohydro 10 is expected to expand more cooperation opportunities in Cambodia and Southeast Asian markets, promote the construction of green energy along the Belt and Road, and contribute to the sustainable development of the region.(This article is from the official website of Seetao www.seetao.com.
