Recently, according to the Saudi Gulf Projects website on August 17th, Haichen Energy Storage, a leading enterprise in China's energy storage industry, successfully won the bid for the large-scale energy storage project of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), with a total capacity of 1000MW/4000MWh. The order covers two key projects, namely Tabuk-1 BSP located in Tabuk Province in western Saudi Arabia and Hail 2 BSP located in Haier Province in central Saudi Arabia. Haichen Energy Storage will provide a complete battery energy storage system and long-term operation and maintenance services, with a total contract value of approximately 364 million US dollars (equivalent to 2.639 billion yuan). The project construction will be undertaken by Alfanar Project Company.
As the largest economy in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia has been continuously promoting energy structure optimization and sustainable development in recent years. Its "2030 Vision" clearly proposes to accelerate the layout of renewable energy and new energy storage facilities, and is forming one of the largest energy storage markets in the world. In this process, Chinese enterprises have become important partners in Saudi Arabia's energy transformation with their advanced technological capabilities and mature system integration experience.

Since the beginning of this year, Chinese energy storage companies have continuously won major orders in Saudi Arabia. In February 2025, BYD Energy Storage signed the world's largest grid side energy storage project with Saudi Electricity Company, with a capacity of up to 2.5GW/12.5GWh; In July 2024, Sunac Power also reached an agreement with Saudi engineering procurement and construction company Algihaz Holding to supply PowerTitan 2.0 systems for its multiple energy storage projects with a total capacity of 7.8GWh. These projects are located in the provinces of Najran, Asir, and Gizan, and are expected to achieve full capacity grid connection by 2025.
With Chinese companies such as Haichen Energy Storage, BYD, and Sunac Power achieving significant breakthroughs in the Saudi Arabian market, it not only demonstrates the international competitiveness of China's energy storage manufacturing, but also reflects Saudi Arabia's high recognition of Chinese technology and products in promoting energy structure diversification. The successive implementation of these projects will effectively promote the construction of a new power system in Saudi Arabia and inject sustained momentum into the deep cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia in the energy field.
