Global shipping giant Stena Bulk has announced an exclusive global partnership with Connect LNG AS in Norway to jointly promote the commercial deployment of dockless liquefied natural gas (LNG) transfer technology. This strategic alliance marks a crucial step in the transformation of the energy transportation sector towards a more flexible and efficient infrastructure model.

According to the statement, Connect LNG's core technology enables direct ship to shore docking through a modular floating platform, allowing for LNG loading and unloading operations to be completed without permanent terminal facilities. This plan shortens the construction period of traditional fixed docks by more than 60%, reduces the cost of single deployment by 40%, and is particularly suitable for remote areas, emergency energy supply, and temporary project scenarios. Stena Bulk President and CEO Erik H å nell emphasized that this collaboration aligns with the company's strategic direction of exploring innovative technologies to support flexible energy transportation. The dockless system can not only break through geographical limitations and open up energy channels for areas that traditional infrastructure cannot cover, but also quickly respond to market demand for temporary import and export solutions, such as seasonal energy allocation, post disaster reconstruction energy security, and other scenarios.

On a technical level, Connect LNG's patented system utilizes a combination of dynamic positioning ships and flexible gas delivery arms, coupled with real-time monitoring algorithms, to ensure safe completion of 10000 ton LNG transfer in complex sea conditions. The plan has passed the International Maritime Organization's safety certification and has undergone real-world testing in extreme environments such as the Arctic Circle and Southeast Asian islands. From the perspective of industrial impact, this cooperation will reshape the global LNG supply chain pattern - the traditional transportation mode relying on pipelines and fixed terminals is being supplemented by a new paradigm of mobile infrastructure+intelligent scheduling, especially in developing country markets. This light asset model is expected to accelerate the popularization of clean energy.
As the global energy transition accelerates, the collaboration between Stena Bulk and Connect LNG not only validates commercial feasibility and environmental benefits, but also heralds the evolution of future energy networks towards greater resilience and decentralization.Editor/Cheng Liting
