Recently, the Beijing Public Resource Trading Service Platform released a bidding announcement, clarifying the schedule for the advancement of another major transportation hub project in the mountainous city of Chongqing. The bidding for the construction of the new Chongqing Qianjiang Railway Chongqing Station building and supporting comprehensive transportation hub project has officially started. It is planned to commence construction on December 25, 2025 and be completed on December 25, 2028, with a total construction period of 1096 calendar days. This grand project with a total investment of about 15 billion yuan marks a historic upgrade and reshaping of the railway hub in the main city of Chongqing.

As one of the traditional four major passenger stations in Chongqing railway hub, the existing Chongqing Station is a terminal station with three platforms and seven lines, with a station building area of 26000 square meters. Its scale and capacity are gradually unable to meet the operational needs of modern high-speed railway networks. This renovation will completely bid farewell to the past and transform it into a modern comprehensive transportation hub with 7 stations and 14 lines, and a station building area of 60000 square meters. After the renovation is completed, Chongqing Station will successfully introduce two high-speed railway lines, the Chengdu Chongqing High speed Railway and the Chongqing Hunan High speed Railway, while also taking into account the general speed lines of the Chengdu Chongqing Railway. It is expected to send up to 23.6 million passengers annually, achieving a huge leap in transportation capacity.

This project is far from a simple station building expansion, its core lies in building a deeply integrated and seamlessly connected three-dimensional transportation system. The construction covers a total area of 620000 square meters, including station buildings, hub facilities, and comprehensive development. It is particularly crucial that the project will simultaneously promote the integration of urban rail transit, including the construction of reserved rail transit lines 26 and 27, as well as the construction of transfer channels with the northern extension of line 18. This means that in the future, Chongqing Station will become a large-scale comprehensive hub integrating high-speed railways, conventional railways, multiple urban rail transit systems, buses, taxis, and other modes of transportation, truly achieving a convenient travel experience of "zero transfer" and greatly strengthening Chongqing's core function as a national comprehensive railway hub.
