Construction of State Power Investment Qinghai Energy Storage Project begins

Recently, the State Power Investment Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "State Power Investment") officially started construction on the 150MW/600MWh grid side energy storage project in Haixi Prefecture, Qinghai Province. As a key project in the construction of a new power system in the northwest region, the launch of this project not only marks the further deepening of China Energy Investment Corporation's layout in the energy storage field, but also injects strong impetus into Qinghai's efforts to build a national clean energy industry highland, and helps to transform the regional energy structure and achieve the "dual carbon" goal.

It is reported that the project is located in Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, with a planned construction scale of 150MW/600MWh. It adopts lithium iron phosphate energy storage battery technology, and is equipped with energy storage inverters, boost stations, and related auxiliary facilities. The total investment of the project is expected to exceed 800 million yuan, and it is planned to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2025. After being put into operation, the project will have multiple functions such as smoothing power grid fluctuations, peak shaving and valley filling, emergency backup, etc. It can achieve an annual charging and discharging capacity of about 120 million kilowatt hours, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 96000 tons per year, equivalent to saving about 39000 tons of standard coal, and have significant ecological and social benefits.

Haixi Prefecture in Qinghai Province has abundant wind and solar energy resources and is the core area of a large-scale clean energy base planned by the country. However, the intermittency and volatility of new energy also pose higher requirements for the safe and stable operation of the power grid. The relevant person in charge of State Power Investent Corporation stated that the construction of this energy storage project will effectively enhance the regional power grid's ability to absorb new energy, solve the problem of "abandoning wind and solar" in new energy, and promote the implementation of the integrated development model of wind, solar and energy storage. At the same time, the project will adopt an intelligent operation and maintenance management system to achieve precise control of energy storage units through big data and IoT technology, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the project and providing replicable and promotable practical experience for similar projects.

At present, the project has completed the preliminary work such as site leveling and construction drawing design. The construction unit is advancing the main project construction according to the established plan, and it is expected to complete the core equipment foundation pouring before the winter construction period. The local government has also provided various forms of support for the project, including land use, approval, policies, etc., to ensure the smooth progress of the project.
