Recently, the signing ceremony for major energy new infrastructure projects in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region was held in Hohhot, and the independent new energy storage project with a total scale of 1GW/4GWh was officially completed. The total investment of this project exceeds 5 billion yuan, jointly invested and constructed by leading domestic energy storage industry enterprises and local energy groups in Inner Mongolia. It is located in the core area of Inner Mongolia's clean energy base and will become a leading independent energy storage demonstration project in China after completion, injecting strong impetus into the energy transformation and new power system construction in northern Xinjiang.

As a benchmark project for implementing the national "dual carbon" goals and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region's "14th Five Year Plan" for the development of new energy storage, the independent new energy storage project signed this time precisely meets the regional energy development needs. Inner Mongolia is the province with the largest clean energy resources in China. By 2023, the cumulative installed capacity of wind and solar power will exceed 70 million kilowatts, accounting for 65% of the total installed capacity of the region. However, the intermittent and fluctuating characteristics of new energy have led to increasing pressure on the power grid peak regulation, and the problem of wind and solar power curtailment in some areas has become a key bottleneck restricting industrial upgrading. The project plans to construct a 1GW rated power and 4GWh energy storage capacity, using lithium iron phosphate energy storage batteries and containerized modular design. After a single full charge, it can meet the weekly electricity demand of about 300000 households. Through flexible adjustment of the "charging energy storage discharge" full chain, it will effectively smooth out fluctuations in new energy generation and enhance the grid's acceptance of clean energy.

The project has outstanding highlights in technological innovation and mode operation. At the core technology level, the power station will be equipped with an intelligent cluster control system that can respond to power grid dispatch instructions in milliseconds, with a charging and discharging efficiency of over 92%, and multiple functions such as peak shaving and valley filling, peak shaving and frequency regulation, and emergency backup; In response to the extreme weather conditions of severe cold and strong winds in Inner Mongolia, low-temperature adaptive batteries and composite insulation temperature control systems are adopted to ensure stable operation of the energy storage unit in an environment of -30 ℃ to 40 ℃. At the same time, a fire and explosion prevention intelligent monitoring system and a full life cycle safety management platform are equipped to build a strong safety defense line. In terms of operation mode, the project will deeply participate in the long-term, spot and ancillary service market transactions of electricity, achieve revenue balance through market-oriented methods, and explore the integrated operation mode of "energy storage+new energy", providing replicable samples for the commercial development of regional energy storage projects.

From the perspective of regional development, the significance of the project's implementation is profound. In the short term, it will directly stimulate investment in upstream and downstream industries such as energy storage equipment manufacturing, engineering machinery, and logistics transportation, create about 2000 job opportunities, and drive the development of related industries such as local building materials supply and technical services; In the long run, power stations can promote the consumption of about 500 million kilowatt hours of new energy annually, effectively reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 400000 tons, and helping Inner Mongolia achieve its "dual carbon" goals. At the same time, the project will strengthen the interconnection and interoperability between the West Inner Mongolia power grid and the North China power grid, improve the regional power supply and demand balance mechanism, provide solid support for energy supply guarantee in the Beijing Tianjin Hebei region, promote the transformation of Inner Mongolia's clean energy resource advantages into economic advantages, and help Northern Xinjiang build a national level clean energy base.

It is reported that the preliminary preparations for the project have been launched simultaneously, and key links such as land planning, environmental impact assessment approval, and survey and design will be accelerated in the future. The plan is to construct in two phases, with the first phase of 500MW/2GWh expected to be completed and put into use by the end of 2026. The overall project will be fully completed by 2028. This signing is not only an important milestone for the large-scale and intensive development of Inner Mongolia's new energy storage industry, but also provides practical experience for optimizing the energy structure and constructing a new power system in Northwest China, and writes a significant chapter in the energy transformation and high-quality development of Northern Xinjiang.Editor/Bian Wenjun
