On the vast grasslands of Xilingol, Inner Mongolia, a grid type energy storage power station with a scale of 500MW/2GWh is about to be built. Recently, China Power Construction Corporation announced the winning candidates for the energy storage system in the 1GW/4GWh power side energy storage sub project of the 2025 New Energy Storage Special Action for Xilingol East Su Substation in Inner Mongolia. Chongqing Wanbang Star Charging Energy Co., Ltd. and Shanxi Yaoxing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. have respectively won the pre bid for 475MW/1900MWh and 25MW/100MWh energy storage system orders. This major project with a total investment of approximately 1.7 billion yuan marks a crucial step for China in the large-scale application of grid based energy storage technology.
Energy innovation on 220 acres of land
As a centralized grid type energy storage power station, this project adopts advanced lithium iron phosphate battery technology, with a planned installed capacity of 500MW/2000MWh. The total land area of the project is about 220 acres, and the land acquisition and construction of the energy storage power station, booster station, and transmission lines will be completed in one go. The promotion of this large-scale energy storage project, with China Power Construction Group Jiangxi Electric Power Construction Co., Ltd. as the tenderer, fully demonstrates China's determination and strength in the field of new energy infrastructure construction.

Two companies share a large 2GWh order
In the allocation of winning bidders, Chongqing Wanbang Star Charging Energy Co., Ltd. received orders of 475MW/1900MWh, accounting for 95% of the total scale; Shanxi Yaoxing New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has received an order of 25MW/100MWh. This allocation result reflects China Power Construction's strategic layout in supplier selection, relying on the scale advantage of large enterprises and providing growth space for emerging enterprises. The winning bid of the two companies also provides a new model for the coordinated development of China's energy storage industry chain.

Grid based energy storage leads industry transformation
The grid based energy storage technology adopted in this project represents a new direction for the development of energy storage systems. Compared with traditional grid based energy storage, grid based energy storage can actively construct grid voltage and frequency, significantly improving the stability and reliability of the grid. The successful application of this technology in the Xilingol Grassland will provide valuable experience for the construction of large-scale new energy base supporting energy storage projects in the future, and promote the continuous development of China's energy storage technology.
